What happens at a visit
Look it over
I check the piano's pitch and condition, then tell you what it needs before I start.
Bring it to pitch
If it has drifted far from A440, it needs a pitch raise first. I'll ask before adding one.
Tune it
I set the temperament in the middle of the keyboard, then work out through the treble and bass.
Wrap up
I check chords and octaves across the keyboard, then tell you what I found and when to tune next.

I block out a full morning or afternoon for every piano, so your visit is never rushed.
The name comes from temperament, the way a tuner spaces the notes so every key on the piano sounds right together.

Pricing
Flat prices, with no travel fee in my service area. You'll know the total before I start.
Pitch raise
+$50An extra first pass for a piano that has drifted well below pitch, which is common after a few years without tuning. A tuning won't hold without it.
Light cleaning
+$35Soft brush and vacuum inside the case, plus a wipe-down outside.

How often to tune
Arizona's dry air is hard on pianos. Twice a year is a common recommendation here.
Pianos that haven't been tuned in years
A string can break when an old piano is brought up to pitch. I'll talk through the risk with you before I start. Replacing a string is quoted separately.
What I don't do
I don't offer repairs, regulation or deep cleaning that means taking the action out. If your piano needs them, I'll tell you.
